Letters to San Francisco

Colorful cartoon monsters of various sizes and shapes standing in front of a gray background with the text 'Monster Math'.

Letters to San Francisco was a six-day social media activation created as a capstone project for the Children’s Creativity Museum. Reflective art activities gave youth and families a chance to process the isolation and disorientation of the COVID-19 pandemic through creative practice.

Activity guides gave children and families both discussion questions and detailed instructions to make art pieces rooted in San Francisco. Projects included found poetry, paper cranes, and experience-based maps, collages, cartoons, and postcards. The project reached an audience of over 4000 Instagram and Facebook followers.

  • A children's activity sheet titled "Found Poems for San Francisco" with instructions, materials, and two example poems, one a colorful illustrated collage and the other a blacked-out style. The sheet encourages selecting sentences from texts to create poems.

  • An illustrated map of San Francisco with labeled trees and streets, framed in yellow, accompanied by instructions and tips for creating your own map.
